Luke Allan Holmes is one of the most driven and energetic Conservative voices in the North East. Appointed Deputy Chairman (Political) for the County Durham and Blaydon Federation in Spring 2025, and serving as Chairman of the Bishop Auckland Conservatives since 2022.
Born at Bishop Auckland Hospital and raised in County Durham, Luke has always believed in backing our communities and giving people real opportunities to succeed. He served as the Durham County Councillor for Spennymoor from 2021 to 2024, where he championed law and order, investment in town centres, and practical support for working families and pensioners. At the 2024 General Election, he stood as the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for the City of Durham constituency.
Luke’s professional experience is wide-ranging and grounded in serious responsibility. He served in the House of Commons as Chief of Staff to a Treasury Minister and Government Whip, overseeing strategic coordination across Parliament, Government and Whitehall. He’s worked at the centre of Conservative Campaign Headquarters, leading operations in South Yorkshire where he revitalised local campaigning and built effective grassroots operations in the region, and played key roles in two leadership campaigns — supporting both the Rt. Hon. Liz Truss and Rt. Hon. James Cleverly MP.
Alongside his political career, Luke is a successful entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of one of the UK’s fastest-growing companies in the rail industry — based in County Durham — which is leading the revival of rail tourism and proudly employs local people. In recognition of his achievements, he was named a finalist in the 2025 North East Business Awards in the Rising Star category.
Luke lives in Bishop Auckland with his partner Georgia and is regularly found supporting local causes, attending community events, and meeting residents. For Luke, politics is about rolling up your sleeves and getting results — and his mission is clear: to deliver a better future for County Durham and prove that the Conservatives are the party of hard work, aspiration, and action.
