High street site visit discussed the contribution the amusements sector provides to the local economy and community
Dehenna Davison, MP for Bishop Auckland, visited the Admiral High Street Adult Gaming Centre in Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland recently to discuss the amusements industry, the economic contribution of our high street gaming centres and how the sector has managed throughout the pandemic.
The visit provided an opportunity to meet local staff and customers and discuss the sector’s offer on the high street. During the visit, Ms Davison was also informed that Admiral managed to avoid any redundancies during the pandemic, not just in Bishop Auckland but across the country.
The discussion during the visit also covered Admiral’s employment signature in the area, the significant levels of training courses that are available to staff and the forms of gaming available to customers.
Ms Davison also recognised how the high street gaming sector has had to endure a number of challenges, such as having to deal with extended lockdowns and the business implications resulting from these lockdowns, but also heard that the sector is beginning to recover well alongside the rest of the high street and is pleased to be able to continue contributing towards the local economy and community.
Speaking about the visit, Dehenna Davison said:
“It was great to visit my local Admiral gaming centre in Bishop Auckland to meet the local team and find out more about the business and their customers. We also discussed the training they provide for staff the important role they play on our high streets and within our communities.”
“These venues are safe, friendly and social. I welcome the Government’s Review into gambling legislation that is taking place, as the current legislation pre-dates the prevalence of online gambling and I hope that this review leaves space for more socially responsible, in person businesses like these high street gaming centres.”
Adele Jackson, Regional Operations Manager for the site and one of the hosts, said:
“Highlighting the unique nature of our business to MPs is really important to us. Showcasing our low stake, low prize entertainment and underlining our emphasis on consumer safety is key to visits such as this one.”
“We are very grateful to Ms Davison for her time and look forward to working proactively together to see how we can support this local business.”
